murals canvas murals faux & trompe decorative
Faux finishing and trompe l´oeil. These two terms are often confused or used interchangeably, especially as trompe l´oeil may employ techniques of faux finishing in creating its effects. Essentially, the defining characteristic is that faux finishes produce two–dimensional effects which imitate another material, e.g., wood, marble, etc. Trompe l´oeil, on the other hand, aims to give the illusion of three–dimensional realism. Most often this term applies to painted illusions of architecture such as columns and moldings.
